Ula - Washington

Rick, my husband, and I were looking for a dog to agree upon getting and was failing miserably. Then we saw our neighbor, Joy, walking her lab and brand new Tamaskan pup. We fell in love at first sight with the breed. We did our research, talked it over and decided that we wanted one. We bought our pup Ula the next litter. I guess we were lucky because we got to see first hand before we got ours. We fell in love with the breed because of Joy and Akira. She was exactly like we thought she would be. A spirited, intelligent, adorably well-bred Tamaskan. The first night home was a blast! I was so excited to have Ula home, well until bed time. She would not sleep in her kennel at all, we even tried to bring it in the bedroom to be closer to us. The remedy: being able to touch us. The moment we let her out she curled up with us and went right to sleep, and it has been that way ever since. I was thoroughly surprised that there was no messes in the morning.

My husband and I have taken Ula everywhere since the day we got her. We usually don't even use a leash because she usually stays right next to us. We have even taken her camping in the Olympic National Mountains , and on road trips to Forks, WA where she played on the beach and tried to eat crabs. She even road across country from WA state to GA where she is staying now. She was great the whole way over. Half the trip across was explaining to family, and even complete strangers, what she is and how wonderful of a dog they really are. We always joke about the fact that we can never get anything done because everyone stops us and asks questions about Ula, but it really is the truth.

Our veterinarian, Dr. Wright fell in love with her, and she loves to go see him. Ula is so cooperative that he rarely charged us for office visits, unless there is shots or medicine involved, which is rare. Our neighbor , Tasha would always came over with her two year old son Dylan that Ula absolutely adores. He always hugs her and calls out her name. He even uses her to help stand up sometimes. It worried us the first few times he grabbed her tail and pulled himself up but she just turned and licked his face. He fell down laughing like she was tickling him. She definitely becomes the protective mother with pretty much all kids.

Everyone falls in love with her. Whether its her personality that wins them over or her wolfy looks I don't know. She great, when I'm sick or in pain she knows and cuddles up with me all day, but when I am ready to go running oh boy! I am eventually going to have her registered as a therapy dog, I just want her to be the puppy that she is first.

Ula doesn't really like swimming which is surprising, last summer we went to the lake near Yelm, WA. She would step into the water but wouldn't go any farther, though she has no problem becoming a mess at the dog park in the rain and mud. Rick was out on a raft with some kids that were playing next to it yelling and all of a sudden she jumped in and swam out to the raft and climbed on. She wouldn't go back to land until he jumped in and started calling her back with him. The only thing we could think of was, she probably thought someone was hurt . I guess you could say she's our princess.

We love our Tamaskan and cannot image our family without her,
April and Richard
